I can say, without hesitation, that this is one of the best movie experiences I have had this year.

Spoilers Ahead

John Krasinski really proves himself to be a fantastic director. He did something I never thought was possible: He made a movie with jump scares that I actually enjoy. Normally I can’t stand them, I feel like they’re a cheap, lazy way to get a reaction from the audience. However, it’s earned in A Quiet Place. You are so caught up in the film that when it happens, it’s actually effective. The sound work in this is amazing and the film explores sound in a way that I’ve never seen or heard before.

What do I mean by that?

Well, you’ll just have to see the movie.

In the film, Krasinski Plays Lee Abbott, a father just trying to keep his family safe from some monsters. He does an amazing job alongside his real-life wife Emily Blunt. They’ll have you rooting for them the whole time and have some great, emotional scenes that I couldn’t help but get a bit choked up over. You can see the toll of living in this world in their performances. I also have to mention Millicent Simmonds, who plays the oldest daughter in the film. For such a young actress, she really shines. I’ve heard that originally, the studio didn’t want her to be in the movie, but Krasinski fought for her; I can see why.

The monsters of A Quiet Place looked great. I really loved their unique designs. I also really appreciated that they kept their origin vague, you really never learn where they come from. If you reveal too much about a monster, then they aren’t as scary anymore. That is definitely not the case here and you could cut the tension with a knife whenever one of those things is on screen. I was a bit worried about the PG-13 rating, but I’m glad to say that it doesn’t need an R, the atmosphere was enough to keep me enthralled.

See this in the theater too, trust me. The sounds system adds so much too it.

A Quiet Place is currently playing in theaters everywhere.
